LSVT BIG
Dr. Roth is certified in LSVT BIG, which is a scientific-based treatment protocol that has shown phenomenal improvements in functional performance for patient’s suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
LSVT BIG aims to treat the common symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, including difficulty walking, balance impairments, postural abnormalities, fine motor tasks such as writing and buttoning a shirt, and other functional tasks necessary for daily living. There has also been emerging research on the benefits LSVT BIG for other neurological conditions including chronic stroke.
In this intensive treatment program, patient’s will be trained to recognize and self-correct abnormal movement patterns with the goals of normalizing movement amplitude and calibration of that amplitude across all aspects of life. LSVT is a standardized treatment program with the capability to be adapted and tailored to each patient’s specific needs and goals.

Key features of LSVT BIG include:
- Individualized Approach: LSVT BIG is a standardized program that can be tailored to each individual’s specific needs and functional goals. Therapists work closely with patients to develop a personalized treatment plan.
- Intensive Training: The program involves four sessions per week for four consecutive weeks, making it a concentrated and intensive therapy regimen.
- Amplitude Training: LSVT BIG emphasizes larger and more exaggerated movements to counteract the reduced amplitude of movements often associated with Parkinson’s disease.
- Functional Goals: Therapy sessions focus on improving everyday activities such as walking, getting up from a chair, and reaching for objects to enhance a person’s independence and quality of life.
- Feedback and Repetition: Patients receive frequent feedback and practice exercises that encourage improved movement patterns.
- Long-Term Benefits: Research has shown that LSVT BIG can lead to long-lasting improvements in mobility and function, helping individuals maintain a higher level of independence.
This program has been successful in helping individuals with Parkinson’s disease and related conditions regain confidence in their movements and enhance their overall quality of life. It is typically administered by physical therapists who are trained in LSVT BIG techniques.
